Handling a Fire Emergency

In order to effectively handle a fire emergency, each occupant should be
familiar with the following topics:

  • floor areas
  • high rises
  • reporting a fire
  • evacuation because of a fire
  • evacuating the disabled/handicapped occupants
  • fire extinguisher and pull station locations
  • fire stairwell locations
  • building exits
  • the location and use of fire extinguishers within their space

Floor Areas

Each occupant uses the closest exit stairwell to evacuate the floor.  It is
important for each occupant to know the location of ALL exits on the
floor in case the closest exit is impassible.
